MotorStorm Arctic Edge is a prequel car racing video game, developed by Bigbig Studios for the Sony PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable. The game was released on September 29, 2009. New additions for MotorStorm: Arctic Edge is the returning "cooldown" technique by driving through deep snow, and vehicles can be customized such as body kits, liveries, spoilers, exhausts and sponsor stickers, though its performance cannot be enhanced.

New hazards for the prequel game is known as avalanche, which can be triggered by vehicle explosion or blowing the vehicle's horn. This causes the giant snow to rumble down the track and will create as a blockade meaning that light vehicles cannot get through, except heavy vehicles. Icy bridges can also be dangerous for heavy vehicles. While small vehicles can get through icy bridges, heavier vehicles can cause it to break and disintegrate, making the short cut inevitable to get across.

Tracks are modeled after the rugged Alaskan landscape featuring a unique blend of narrow mountain passes, giant ice caves, long ice bridges, and treacherous terrain. Players must battle through each race facing a number of weather conditions including snow, rain, and wind.

Two new vehicles are available specifically to tackle the Alaskan terrain including the nimble Snow Cat and more forceful Snow Plow.

12 available tracks that show off the unpredictable nature of the rough Alaskan setting. Each of the tracks will be accessible to race in reverse for added race variety.
