Precious is a pregnant sixteen-year-old who suffers abuse at the hands of those who are supposed to love and care for her. This is her second pregnancy by her own father and she is at risk of being suspended from school because of that pregnancy. This may be a problem for others, but school really hasn't been a priority in Precious' life. She is in the ninth grade after being held back numerous times and can barely read and write. Precious lives with her abusive mother who basically does nothing but collect welfare checks and treat Precious like a slave. She repeatedly tells Precious that she will never amount to anything that she's basically worthless.
